A large tow-truck crashes into a restaurant in Frenchtown, New Jersey on Monday night that had apartments above, Firefighters were called to to the scene after a crash. No news of wounded or killed.
Earlier, fire broke out around 10:30 pm at the El Chèvere restaurant in a shopping center on Lexington Avenue, between Monroe and Quincy streets, the Passaic Fire Department said. At least six businesses were completely destroyed, said Passaic fire chief Patrick Trentacost.
Firefighter injuries were described as minor, Trentacost said. All have been treated and discharged.
Firefighters said the fire started in the restaurant’s kitchen and quickly spread to the other businesses, sending flames through the roof of the mall.
The video of the scene showed a Chifa Wing Wah restaurant, two salons and a travel agency among some of the damaged businesses. At least four of the companies collapsed as the flames intensified.
The fire quickly increased to six alarms, according to a Facebook Live of almost 30 minutes with Mayor Héctor Carlos Lora. Authorities said the fire was checked around 3 am, but authorities were still working in hot areas.
The gas and grease in the restaurant’s kitchen would have helped fuel the fire, officials said.
Trentacost said the claim is not considered suspicious, but the exact cause is still under investigation.
