The Day of the Waffles or Waffles Day is a tradition that is already celebrated worldwide on March 25. It is the day when the most waffles of the year are eaten, especially in Sweden, which was where the tradition began.
Happy Waffle Day! Today, Sweden officially honors the waffle. This time it’s a Sunday, so you have no excuse! Make one, consume one, share one! To keep it extra sweet, try one with blackberry jam, as shown in the photo.
- 2 cups flour
- 2 tablespoons of baking powder
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 2 cups of milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 tablespoon (generous) of melted butter
Separate the egg whites from the yolks. Beat the egg whites to snow and set aside.
Mix the milk, melted butter, sugar and egg yolks in a medium bowl. Beat until the sugar dissolves well.
Place all the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder and salt) in a large bowl, and add the wet ingredients that you just mixed.
Mix well all the ingredients, until the dough has no lumps. Then, with a wooden spoon and enveloping movements, mix the egg whites with snow that you reserved with the dough. At this point you can not beat, otherwise the mass will not grow. Now you just have to cook the waffles in a waffle maker (waffle maker, like making hot sandwiches). Normally this takes about 2 to 3 minutes, but it depends on the machine, so it is best to follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
